About Us
The Tobacco-Free Campus Initiative team is a student led research program that works through UCLA's Education For Sustainable Living program and UCLA's Institute of the Environment and Sustainability. The team seeks to raise awareness and analyze the environmental effects of the upcoming tobacco ban.
On April 22, 2013 UCLA will become a tobacco-free campus. During the winter quarter our Action Research Team identified “HotSpot” areas of tobacco-use. Our team will quantify the effects of tobacco-use on air pollution surrounding these HotSpots. This measure will be repeated during the spring quarter to help examine the effectiveness of the tobacco ban.
The research team is also creating a media campaign that will aid current efforts to reduce tobacco-use and increase awareness of the future ban. Through our work, we hope to ease the breakthrough transition our campus is making in going tobacco free.
