Mapping Tobacco HotSpots and

             Cigarette Counts

UCLA with HotSpots

Sections of Campus

The first segment of our research revolves around counting cigarette butts at select "Tobacco HotSpots". Our team classified Tobacco HotSpots as areas where there are a significant number of smokers and cigarette butts.  After analyzing several areas of campus, our team chose 5 HotSpots and 2 Control Sites. The HotSpots are spread around campus to analyze geographic differences. Each HotSpot will be analyzed and counted twice a week.  This process began during the 9th Week of WInter Quarter and will end during the !0th Week of Spring Quarter. The purpose of this experiment is to compare the change in cigarette-butt litter between pre-tobacco ban and post-tobacco ban.
